The front page of the Grimsby Evening Telegraph from the morning after Ray was born in February 1976, set beside a page from November 1983 carrying a photograph of him at a bonfire night display, seven years later. At the foot of the picture the newsprint dissolves into the Humber, drawn in chalk pastel: marsh grass, open water, fishing boats and the Dock Tower. The record of a day, coming apart into the landscape it was printed in.
